Behind the scenes

Monday is one of the quietest days in the shop - I think this is fairly universal in the retail trade, but it is a busy day for us behind the scenes upstairs hidden away in the office. We usually do most of our ordering on Monday, and getting the stock levels right, and anticipating customer demand is one of the most interesting and challenging parts of running the shop.
Part of the ethos of The Larder is that where possible we use local suppliers, to that end our organic milk comes from down the road at Goodwood, delivered to us on Tuesday and Friday, just hours after it is processed in the dairy, most of our meat comes from Michael Courtneys in Midhurst - the nicest most helpful butchers you could ever wish to meet, and our fruit and vegetables are delivered daily by the lovely Cheryl and Michaela from Pips of Petworth - who have the unenviable task of getting up at 5 a.m. every morning to get to the wholesale market in Brighton.
This week we are trying out a new supplier from Devon, who is supplying our new range of Rod and Ben's fresh soups.  We had some keen volunteers acting as tasters last week, and overall we had very good feedback - after much deliberation we opted for Carrot and Coriander, Seasonal Mushroom and Vegetable and Pistou - they are arriving tomorrow and will be selling at a special introductory offer price, so do come in and have a look. We will also be introducing Innocent Smoothies, unsalted butter, a new range of houmous and taramasalata, some new deli meats - and not forgetting our new Belgian chocolate muffins and Bakewell tart - just writing this blog is making me feel hungry.
Come in and see us soon - and catch up with our blog later in the week for details of our "Tea Time Treats" tasting this weekend.

Pancake Day

Pancake Day today.  It always amazes me what people like to put in their pancakes, personally I am old fashioned enough to only associate lemon and sugar as a pancake filling, but chocolate nut spread seems to be all the rage these days, but whatever you choose to put in yours enjoy them and have a great day.
If you are making pancakes for the children, don't forget our half term colouring competition.  Just colour in one of our pictures, write the child's name and address on the back, and drop it back into the shop.  Judging on Saturday.

Welcome to Lodsworth Larder & Taste of Italy Week

A big welcome to our new blog, designed to keep you up to date with the latest events taking place in our wonderfull village shop.  Our blog will let you know about all the latest promotions, special offers, and recipes which we hope to offer over the coming month; as well as giving an insight into the day-to-day happenings that make our shop such a special place.
This weekend we are holding our Taste of Italy promotion - (although we did have a slightly sticky moment when our Italian flag outside was taken as a gesture of support for the Italian ruby team, who are playing England tomorrow).  Hopefully the confusion was soon cleared up once people came inside to taste our wonderful array of olives, sauces, oils and Italian crackers.  We also had some delicious Ciabatta bread supplied by The Granary Bakery; which was dipped into our favourite Vallecoppa olive oil.
Don't forget tomorrow is Valentines Day - so if you need some last minute chocolates or a special something for someone you love, we are open until 12 tomorrow.
Next week we will be continuing our Taste of Italy promotion as well as running a half-term colouring competition from Monday the 15th February.  Tuesday is Pancake Day and we have lots of yummy things to put in them, from good old sugar and lemon to the more unusual chocolate and hazelenut spread and toffee sauce.
We welcome your comments and feedback - so do stay in touch.
